IDC 2009: Call for papers & presentations
IDC 2007 was a success, with a good variety and standard of speakers, and lively discussion. We’re now planning IDC2009, and would like to hear from anyone who would like to make a presentation to the Conference.
Information Design is a broad field that encompasses work in graphic communication, interface design and information architecture, technical writing, and wayshowing, among other areas. Submissions can touch on practice or research on any topic, including:
- government and administration
- healthcare and health promotion
- technical instruction and user guides
- reference and learning materials
- transport information and signage
- forms and transaction interfaces
- financial and billing information
The Programme Committee are particularly keen to see submissions based on:
- case studies from design practitioners which offer generalisable conclusions, methods and ideas; and
- research studies that provide evidence which can be acted on by designers in practice.
But, whatever your focus, we'll be glad to hear from you with any ideas related broadly and imaginatively to advancing the field of Information Design. As before, we are not focusing on any particular theme, such as education or health... though we will nurture and shape themes, if they seem to have emergent value.
Please send us an abstract of your proposed paper. This should be between 500 and 600 words.
In writing the abstract, consider the elements you will be incorporating in the final paper, bearing in mind presentation length will be 25 minutes plus 10 mins questions/discussion.
Submission deadline: 31 December 2008.
Notification of acceptance will be in mid January 2009.
Please send your abstract by email to conference@infodesign.org.uk
