Case Study: Applying General Principles of a
Performance-based Approach to Nonprescription Medicines
Labelling in Mexico
The Medicines Labelling Group and the Communication Research Institute acted as advisors to the Mexico regulatory agency, COFEPRIS, and the Mexican nonprescription medicines industry association, AFAMELA, to develop a research-based training programme on design of medicines information and packaging. The project was completed in 2006. It has not been reported previously.
The presentation will cover the validity of applying general principles of information design on medicines developed in one cultural and linguistic experience to another. The wider contextual issues of regulatory and policy climate to practical aspects of implementation will be included. Examples of newly designed nonprescription medicines will be available as well as latest update on the status of the project.
